Hospital Visitor Policy

The safety and well-being of our patients, visitors and staff is our highest priority.

Please be aware of our visitor policy, which is listed below.

Our visitor check in process at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Atlantic City and Mainland Campuses is designed to support a safe environment, make it easier to identify visitors, and ensure that visitors are in the right location. All visitors should be prepared to show photo identification at the reception desk to receive a visitor pass. All visitors must display a visitor pass while in the hospitals.

Hospital/Ambulatory Care Sites

In general, visitors of any age are permitted to visit from 8 AM to 8 PM, with some exceptions.

Emergency Department

• Up to two visitors are permitted at a time for duration of the patient’s stay in the Emergency Department.

Center for Childbirth - Obstetrics/Labor and Delivery/Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

• LABOR & DELIVERY UNIT: Two designated persons are permitted to be at the beside 24/7 for the duration of the patient’s stay in Labor & Delivery. One of these persons must wear a support person bracelet. The other person is able to swap out with a different person with patient’s permission. Between 8 am - 8 pm, ONE additional visitor is permitted at any given time.
• MOTHER BABY UNIT: One designated support person is permitted to visit for the duration of the patient’s stay 24/7. This individual must wear a support person bracelet. Between 8 am – 8 pm, two additional visitors are permitted at any given time.
• Siblings under the age of 14 must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult who is not the patient.
• Additionally, one designated doula may visit for the duration of the birth parent’s stay as part of the care team.
• NICU: two parents are permitted to visit with 24/7 access. Parents may bring one additional visitor, but continue to limit visit to two at the bedside.
• Maternal Fetal Medicine: Two support persons are permitted to accompany the patient at the ultrasound/consult visit only. Minors under the age of 14, must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult who is not the patient.

Surgery/Procedure Patients

• One visitor may accompany the patient through registration and may rejoin the patient in recovery and for the patient’s discharge from the hospital.

Adult In-Patient

• Up to two visitors of any age are permitted at the same time between 8 AM and 8 PM.
• Any minors (17 years old or younger) visiting a patient must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult other than the patient.
• An adult inpatient who is on airborne or enhanced droplet precautions may have up to two visitors over age 14 who agree to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Intensive Care Unit

• Up to two visitors over age 14 may visit a patient in the ICU at the same time between 9 AM and 10 AM, and between 11 AM and 6 PM.
• A patient who is in the ICU and is on airborne or enhanced droplet precautions may have up to two visitors who agree to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

• Two parents or guardians may visit at the same time 24/7, unless the patient is on enhanced droplet precautions. One additional visitor is permitted from 8 AM to 8 PM.
• If the patient is on enhanced droplet precautions, one designated visitor may visit the patient.

• One visitor or support person may visit an individual who is in our Inpatient Psychiatric Care Unit from 6 PM to
  8 PM.

Patients at End of Life

• Up to two visitors at a time may visit a patient at the end stage of life 24/7.
• A patient who is at the end stage of life and is on airborne or enhanced droplet precautions may have up to two visitors who agree to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Additional AtlantiCare Locations/Services

AtlantiCare Surgery Centers and AtlantiCare Center for Orthopaedic Surgery

• Patients must have one responsible adult accompany them to the facility and to drive them home.
• The responsible adult can wait in their vehicle or in the surgery center lobby and will be notified via phone when the patient is ready to be picked up, pending clearance by the care team.
• If the patient is a minor (age 17 or younger) or has other significant, care-related circumstances that the office reviews prior to the visit, additional support persons could be permitted to accompany the patient.

AtlantiCare Physician Group (APG) Primary, Urgent, and Specialty Care

• Offices are allowing one individual to accompany patients throughout the visit at this time.
• If the patient is a minor (age 17 or younger) or has other significant, care-related circumstances the office reviews prior to the visit, additional support persons might be permitted to accompany the patient.
• AtlantiCare Physician Group Maternal Fetal Medicine in the William L. Gormley AtlantiCare HealthPlex in Atlantic City is allowing one adult support person to accompany the patient throughout the patient’s visit.
• Maternal Fetal Medicine located at the Medical Arts Pavilion in Atlantic City will allow two support persons to accompany the patient at the ultrasound/consult visit only. Minors under the age of 14, must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult who is not the patient.

AtlantiCare Physician Group also offers virtual visits through AtlantiCare’s Telehealth Program.

Visitor Expectations

We respect patients’ rights to privacy, including the right to decline visitors.

Visitors must comply with the following and other safety measures to enter and remain in any AtlantiCare site:

• Visitors must check in at the information desks of the hospital or Emergency Department to obtain a visitor pass, and must wear this pass in a visible location throughout their stay.
• Individuals must refrain from visiting any AtlantiCare site if they have flu-like symptoms, are sick, or have a fever of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher until symptoms resolve.
• Individuals must participate in a wellness screening that could include symptoms, exposure risk, and temperature check (not have a fever of 100.4 or higher) upon entering our hospital campuses or other locations.
• Quarantine appropriately as directed by your healthcare provider after an actual or potential exposure to COVID-19.
• Wear other protective equipment if providers or staff direct you to do so.
• Wash or sanitize hands at designated sanitizing/handwashing areas as you enter the facility, before visiting a patient, after using the restroom (wash hands with soap and water), and throughout your visit.
• Patient nutrition stations are not open to visitors and support persons.
• Visitors under the age of 14 must be prepared for the hospital environment and the patient’s illness as appropriate. They must be accompanied and supervised by an approved, responsible adult visitor (who is not the patient) at all times. Children’s behavior must be appropriate for the hospital environment.
• The care team and AtlantiCare leadership will evaluate overnight visitation requests due to special circumstances on a case by case basis.
• Visitors who engage in disruptive, threatening or violent behavior of any kind, or who bring any illegal items or substances, including any weapons, into AtlantiCare facilities, will be restricted from visiting immediately.
